Tips to grow your Facebook reach organically

So you have had 60 Facebook likes since January and although you post everyday, you don’t see those numbers moving at all! Here are some tips that might help you grow those numbers, we would love your feedback on any of these tips and if you have had success with them.

1. Make sure you have Facebook links on all of your promotions.

Is your Facebook Link front and center on your website, that will drive people from your Website to like you on Facebook. Make sure you have it front and center and make sure it is a link to “like it”. Make sure that you have it on everything you publish and put out. Packaging, email newsletters, letterhead, your email signature, get it out to as many people as possible.

If you are a retail business put up a sign to “Like you on Facebook” offer an incentive, like “show our clerk and get 10% off your order.”

2. Like and Follow Like Minded and Relevant Businesses.

Have you liked other businesses, news outlets, local organizations? All of these organizations can help spread the word for you. For example if you are a veterinarian, you should like all Animal Rescue Leagues or Animal Shelters. Most people who adopt animals will need a veterinarian at some point, so offer advice, comments and share their stories with your audience. Create content that they will want to share with their audience.

Make sure you are scanning the feed of the businesses you follow daily. Comment and add to their discussions. If you are following a news organization and holding an event, perhaps they will take notice and share your event with their audience translating into new likes for you.

Do not follow direct competition and try to take from their page. You can however see what businesses they follow and “Like” those businesses too.

3. Have a content strategy.

Look at your calendar and look at what is relevant during the upcoming two months. Easter, Mother’s Day. How does what you are selling relate to those holidays? What tips can you offer people that they will want to share?

If you are a bakery perhaps you want to share a recipe for Easter, if you are an accountant perhaps you want to share tips on Filing a late extension.

What is trending? What subjects and topics are trending on Facebook and Twitter? In addition to your planned content strategy you need to know what is trending and how you can take advantage of it. For example on Opening Day for the Boston Red Sox, did you just post “Happy Opening Day” with a photo? NO, find some great content on Opening Day that people will want to share. Offer an Opening Day Special, Discount or Freebie people will want to share.

Make it shareable. Bizaare News, fundraising events, and human interest stories are highly shareable, so be sure to know what is going on and share those feeds with your audience. They in turn will share and so on and so on.

4. Add some Facebook Interactivity

Create a survey using “Survey Monkey” and add it to your Facebook page. Create an engaging survey people will want to share. Survey Monkey has an easy tool to add a Facbook Tab to your website.

Add a Contest. There are plenty of free apps out there to add a contest to your website. Hold a photo contest or a draw to win contest, people love to share those.

5. Milestone Giveaways

Give away prizes for Milestones, everytime you get 50 likes or 100 likes, give away something that does not necessarily cost you a lot of money, perhaps one of the items or services you sell.

6. Support a Cause

This is a similar concept to Milestone giveaways, except instead of giving away products or services, you can donate to a Cause. Again if you find out what is trending, supporting the right cause will be highly shareable content and help you do good at the same time. Make sure your cause is “legitimate” or you can even have people donate to the cause directly by linking from your Facebook page.
